4. Policy changes about the completion of KIIP program (level 4 & 5)

From 2020.09.01, the completion standard of the KIIP Level 4 & 5 for persons who retake the KIIP Level 4 & 5 will change as follows:

‘Old’ KIIP completion standard
(until 2020.09.1)*
‘New’ KIIP completion standard
(after 2020.09.1)
Level 4
- You take the level 4 class and pass the mid-term exam, you receive the level 4 completion certificate, and advance to the level 5

- If you fail the 1st exam (below 60 points):

+ You can retake the test again and again until your score is above 60 points without retaking the 2nd class, you receive the level 4 completion certificate, and advance to the level 5

+ You retake the class 2nd time, you receive the level 4 completion certificate, and advance to the level 5.

+ You retake the 2nd class and retake the exam repeatedly until you score above 40 points, you receive the level 4 completion certificate, and advance to the level 5

Level 5
- You take the level 5 class (50h or 70h course) and pass the comprehensive exam, you receive the level 5 completion certificate and the test passing certificate.

- If you fail the 1st exam (below 60 points):

+ You can retake the test again and again until your score is above 60 points without retaking the 2nd class, you receive the level 5 completion certificate and the test passing certificate

You retake the class 3 times (taking 1st class --> fail exam --> taking 2ndclass --> fail exam --> taking 3rd class), you receive the level 5 completion certificate.

+ You retake the 2nd class and retake the exam repeatedly until you score above 40 points, you receive the level 5 completion certificate (you can't receive the test passing certificate since you haven't passed the test).

Important:  To waive the naturalization interview, you have to pass the 70h (귀화용) test with 60 points or more. Getting only the level 5 completion certificate won't help you waive the interview.

* Comment: The old completion standard (mostly called AUTOPASS policy) is better for persons taking KIIP level 4. The new completion standard is better for persons taking the KIIP level 5.

* What is the difference between the KIIP level 5 completion certificate (이수증) and comprehensive exam passing certificate (합격증)

For example, when applying for the permanent VISA (F5),
+ Person with only the KIIP level 5 completion certificate gets 15 bonus points
+ Person with the comprehensive exam passing certificate gets 10 bonus points
+ Person with both the KIIP level 5 completion certificate and comprehensive exam passing certificate get 25 bonus points.
